What can I do I am facing domestic abuse from my spouse/cohabiter who is living with me and will not leave the family home?

We assess your legal position and advise on your options. In urgent cases, we can ask the court for a Non- Molestation Order and an Occupation Order to both protect you from domestic harassment and to remove your spouse/cohabiter from the family home, if appropriate, so as to protect you.

Do grandparents have rights to see grandchildren?

Grandparents can apply for permission to seek a Child Arrangements Order, and we help guide them through the process.

Can I relocate with my child?

Relocation requires the other parent’s agreement or a court order. We can advise you on the necessary and correct procedure to follow to ensure relocation can be achieved subject to the courts’ oversight if the other parent refuses to agree.

What if my ex partner won’t pay child maintenance?

We explain your options, including using the Child Maintenance Service (CMS).

Do I have to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting before court?

In most cases, yes, unless an exemption applies. We advise on whether mediation is appropriate.

How long does a divorce take?

Due to significant changes to the law in April 2022 parties to a marriage can now divorce simply having informed the court the marriage has irretrievably broken down. The divorce process is now undertaken online and will take at least 6 months, depending on financial matters, however, the circumstances around every case are different.
